Support the Cal/EPA Environmental Justice
Recommendations Report
The California Environmental Protection Agency’s Advisory Committee on Environmental Justice
has approved a precedent-setting recommendations report identifying a
comprehensive program for achieving environmental justice in California.
On October 1, 2003, the Oakland Tribune referred to the recommendations as
"perhaps the most far-reaching set of environmental justice policies in the
nation, establishing guidelines that could color every California permit,
regulation and program dealing with the environment and rewrite how the state
assesses pollution." The most controversial
items in the report include efforts to incorporate key elements of the
Precautionary Principle into Cal/EPA
decision-making processes and calls for reducing cumulative environmental
impacts. (See our
Environmental Policy page for copies of many of the comments submitted on
the draft report.)

We now need to work to assure the full and timely implementation of the
Advisory Committee's recommendations, which are being formally considered through
Cal/EPA's EJ Action
Plan and
EJ
Strategy. Send your comments in support of the complete and
immediate adoption and implementation of the Advisory Committee's
recommendations to:
